Moving Towards Healthier Choices

In 2000, with over twenty years building experience, I renovated my parents' home to help them continue living there comfortably. Focusing on their independence and well-being resulted in my looking at construction with new eyes. For example, their home was designed with features difficult to alter, such as the steep stair to the laundry. Also, I began to question the wisdom of installing flooring, paint and cabinetry that release chemicals into the air - chemicals known to cause health problems.
In the end the renovation was a compromise between time, cost and availability of healthy materials. However, the experience left me respectful of people who question the building industry, a supporter of whole life flexible building design and determined to move toward healthy/green/sustainable building. To turn this 'new vision' into action, I began bringing together an experienced Design, Management and Construction Team committed to increasing well-being in the world.
