Moving Towards Healthier Choices

In 2000, with over twenty years building experience, I renovated my parents' home to help them continue living there comfortably. Focusing on their independence and well-being resulted in my looking at construction designs, products and methods with new eyes. For example, their home was designed with features difficult to alter, such as the steep stair to the laundry. Also, I began to question the wisdom of installing flooring, paint and cabinetry that release chemicals into the air - chemicals known to cause health problems.
In the end the renovation was a compromise between time, cost and availability of healthy materials. However, the experience left me respectful of people who question the building industry, a supporter of whole life flexible building design and determined to move toward healthy/green/sustainable building. To turn these new values into action, I began bringing together a dedicated and experienced Design, Management and Construction Team; people whose first priority is building environments that contribute to our clients' well-being.
