The Name
The name ConstructoGroup was an attempt to include everyone in the credits and set a tone of fun. When coming up with the name, I tried each on my 12 year old son, Ward. When he heard ConstructoGroup, he was still a moment, then with a strong gesture he struck his fist to his chest and into the air, exclaiming "I, I am El Constructo!, and you, you are my faithful assistant." There was no going to other names after that -- until incorporating at the end of 2008, when the BC incorporation people insisted something be put ahead of the word ConstructoGroup to make the name unique! After many varied submissions A1 was accepted, making the legal name A1 CONSTRUCTOGROUP LTD.
Constructo People
We organize your project around work categories that typically have a specialty contractor by the same name, for example, electrical work is carried out by electricians employed by an electrical contractor. We carry out the demolition and structural framing with our own forces because we believe this work is key to producing the end product you desire, i.e. sets the stage for the rest of the work.
Where we are coming from
We are delighted when you choose us to carry out your improvements because we believe that improving your built environment improves your life. In a renovation, you are often living in the house during construction, so not only are we selected to work on the building, but also allowed into your personal domain. We respect this trust and work to earn it and keep it over the course of the job - and beyond. In return, we charge money and welcome appreciation - if you are feeling thankful.
What we have been doing
Since commencing operations in Victoria, BC, February, 2003,
we have carried out diverse home improvements, including: accessibility modifications, two second
floor additions, multiple kitchen
and bathroom renovations, and by the end of 2008, our third 'whole house' renovation. Additionally, in 2007 we began working on Salt Spring Island with our first renovation there earning the Canadian Home Builders' Association, Vancouver Island, 2008 Silver CARE Award for Best Residential Renovation or Restoration $300,000 - $750,000 category.
Where we are headed
Recently, I, Stephen Lentz, was challenged by a business advisor to sum up what we do in six words. My response came so quickly that I felt unsure if it could be accurate, but reading it again - several times, I believe it is accurate: "We work with people to build homes," This reveals that to improve our capabilities, we must continuously improve our abilities in working with people.
My 10-to-30 year audacious goal is to develop a group of highly skilled people and dynamic processes that Sherpa the client through a fantastic building experience culminating in a living environment that is exemplary in providing for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
